Overview
- Banxico released a two-ounce .999 silver coin with a $10 face value as a limited edition, struck by the Casa de Moneda de México with a 48 mm diameter and 62.206 g weight.
- The coin features the national seal on the obverse and Banxico’s main building with the centenary legend on the reverse, and it is being sold through authorized distributors including the Casa de Moneda and MIDE.
- Legal-tender banknotes bearing the legend “100 Aniversario 1925-2025” are entering circulation across the $50, $100, $200, $500 and $1,000 denominations.
- The commemorative banknotes will coexist with current designs and can be obtained at participating banks through exchange at face value for regular use in payments.
- President Claudia Sheinbaum said she will not seek to expand Banxico’s mandate, while the Governing Board stated unanimously that it should remain single, with subgovernor Galia Borja citing New Zealand’s shift away from a dual mandate; a columnist criticized the ceremony as low-key and a missed outreach opportunity.
