Overview

  • Restorer Federico Borgogni led an overnight operation to detach the six-year-old mural from Palazzo San Pantalon after initial cleaning and dust removal
  • Officials worked in consultation with individuals close to Banksy to honor the artist’s intent for the unauthorized street work
  • Banca Ifis funded the conservation project, which aims to halt damage after water and salt erosion affected roughly one third of the image
  • The intervention represents an uncommon modern art preservation in Italy, where state-backed restorations typically apply only to works older than 70 years
  • Once restoration is complete, the panel will be exhibited at free public events in Venice with no date yet announced
