Banks to Close for Five Days Over Papal Visit

A government decree together with a BCRA banking holiday forced ANSES to set a delayed payments calendar starting November 11.

Overview

  • The national government published Decreto 1103/2026 setting special holidays for Pope León XIV’s visit and the BCRA confirmed Tuesday, November 10 as a nationwide banking holiday, creating the bank-sector disruption.
  • The combined effect of the Día del Trabajador Bancario on Friday, the weekend and the papal-visit holidays will leave branches closed for five consecutive days from Friday, November 6 through Tuesday, November 10.
  • Provincial rules add variability because Buenos Aires declared Wednesday, November 11 a local holiday, which could extend branch closures there to six consecutive days until November 11.
  • ANSES moved its November payment calendar so social-security and family benefit deposits begin on Wednesday, November 11 on a DNI-termination schedule and will include the 1.93% monthly mobility increase.
  • Customers can use ATMs, immediate transfers, mobile and online banking and digital wallets during the closures but should plan for possible cash shortages at machines and delays for cheque clearing or any service that needs in-branch processing; another transferred holiday on November 23 will also close branches.
