Overview
- Banks are operating nationwide today, September 20, as it is the third Saturday and no festive holiday is scheduled for this date, per RBI norms.
- The RBI’s September calendar lists 17 holidays including 10 festival days, with routine closures on all Sundays and on the second and fourth Saturdays.
- Upcoming branch closures include September 22 in Rajasthan (Navratra Sthapna), September 23 in Jammu and Srinagar (Maharaja Hari Singh Ji’s birthday), September 27 nationwide (fourth Saturday), September 29 in Tripura, Assam and West Bengal, and September 30 across several states including Tripura, Odisha, Assam, Manipur, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand.
- Digital channels—internet and mobile banking, UPI and ATMs—remain available on bank holidays even when branches are shut.
- Some services still require visiting a branch, such as high-value cash deposits or withdrawals, demand drafts, certain cheque transactions, loan applications or closures, and documentation issues, and customers should consult the RBI’s city-wise list for updates including the added holidays on September 8 (Mumbai) and September 18 (Meghalaya).
