Overview
- Effective October 1, banks enabled the Monto Transaccional del Usuario (MTU) in digital channels as required by the CNBV.
- If customers did not set a limit, institutions applied a default cap of 1,500 UDIS, roughly 12,800 pesos.
- Transfers that exceed the user cap are stopped or require an extra authentication step, and funds remain in the account.
- MTU applies to outgoing electronic operations such as SPEI, CoDi, Dimo, third‑party card payments, services and taxes, and it does not reduce payroll deposits.
- Nu México, which operates as a sofipo, is not required to implement MTU and introduced its own Scam Alert feature to warn on risky transfers.
