Overview
- The Reserve Bank of India’s 2025 holiday calendar designates Janmashtami on August 16 as a bank holiday only in Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Mizoram, Sikkim, Rajasthan, Jammu, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Srinagar and Andhra Pradesh.
- Affected branches will stay closed through Sunday before reopening on Monday when services such as cash deposits, cheque encashment and locker access resume.
- Customers outside the holiday regions can use physical bank branches on their usual Saturday schedule.
- Nationwide digital channels—including ATMs, UPI transfers, internet and mobile banking, NEFT and RTGS—operate without interruption during the holiday.
- The RBI advises customers to consult their state’s holiday list or check with their bank before planning any in-branch transactions.
