Bankrupt Giuliani Regrets Not Applying for Government Pension

The former New York mayor faces financial strain following a $148 million defamation lawsuit and ongoing legal battles.

  • Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who recently filed for bankruptcy, expressed regret for not applying for a government pension which could have provided him with $26,000 in annual payments after turning 62.
  • Giuliani's bankruptcy filing comes after a court ordered him to pay $148 million to two Georgia election workers, Ruby Freeman and her daughter Wandrea Moss, whom he defamed by falsely claiming they colluded to steal the election.
  • Giuliani, who also served as the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, is not receiving a federal pension for his six years in that role or other government work.
  • Giuliani's bankruptcy filing lists estimated assets of between $1 million and $10 million along with liabilities of $100 million to $500 million.
  • Giuliani is also facing another legal battle in Georgia, where he stands accused of attempting to illegally overturn the results of the 2020 election in Fulton County.
