Overview

  • The Bank of England launched its H series consultation on July 1, asking UK residents and citizens abroad to propose their preferred banknote themes
  • Six official themes have been identified—notable historical figures, architecture and landmarks, arts, culture and sport, noteworthy events, innovation and nature—with space for alternative suggestions
  • New banknotes will continue to feature the monarch’s portrait and will exclude other living individuals regardless of the chosen theme
  • Submissions can be made online or by post until 11:59 pm on July 31, after which the Bank will shortlist themes and later invite feedback on specific imagery
  • Banknotes undergo a multi-year design, testing and printing process to ensure quality, security and accessibility while the Bank remains committed to providing cash as usage declines
