Bank Manager Assaulted in Gujarat Over Tax Deduction Dispute

A customer in Ahmedabad attacked a bank manager and an insurance employee over confusion regarding TDS on fixed deposits, prompting police intervention.

The incident occurred at Union Bank's Vastrapur branch in Ahmedabad on December 5, 2024, and involved customer Jaiman Rawal attacking the branch manager and another employee.
Rawal was reportedly upset over the tax deduction at source (TDS) on his fixed deposit interest and claimed the bank was misusing his funds despite being informed about the refund process.
A viral video captured Rawal assaulting the bank manager, tearing his ID card and shirt, and later slapping an insurance firm employee who tried to intervene.
Police arrested Rawal the same day and charged him under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those related to causing harm and obstructing public servants.
The incident has reignited calls from banking unions for stronger protections for bank employees, citing a rise in customer violence across the country.
