Overview
- RMT action means no CrossCountry services on Saturday 23 August, widespread cancellations are expected on Sunday, and a very limited timetable will run on Monday 25 August between 8am and 6pm.
- Passengers are advised not to travel on Saturday, to check live journey updates before setting off, and to claim refunds if they choose not to travel.
- Route impacts include no CrossCountry trains between Birmingham, Reading and the south coast, no service between Leicester, Cambridge and Stansted Airport, and only a very limited service to the South West and north of York.
- Network Rail will carry out 261 projects over the weekend, including no long‑distance services between London King’s Cross and Peterborough on Sunday, with diversions and reduced operations affecting LNER, Lumo, Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry and London Northwestern.
- Road congestion is expected to be heavy with the RAC forecasting 17.6 million car trips, and Inrix warning of long delays on the M5 between Bristol and Devon and on parts of the M20 in Kent, while National Express adds 9,000 extra coach seats.
