Bangladesh’s New Fitness Test Highlights Emerging Pacers and Senior Struggles

Standout performances by Nahid Rana with a 5:31 run set the tone for a Sylhet skills camp aimed at strengthening squad readiness

Overview

  • Under new strength coach Nathan Keily Bangladesh replaced the yo-yo and beep tests with a timed 1600m run and a 40m sprint for 22 players in Dhaka on August 10.
  • Nahid Rana led the field by completing the 1600m run in 5 minutes and 31 seconds to top the new fitness assessment.
  • Tanzim Hasan Sakib was the only other player to finish under six minutes, clocking 5 minutes and 53 seconds in the endurance drill.
  • Senior pacers Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Tanvir Islam, and Shamim Patowary took nearly eight minutes to complete the 1600m run, raising concerns over established fitness levels.
  • Six preliminary squad members including captain Liton Kumar Das and Towhid Hridoy missed the Dhaka test and the full team will regroup in Sylhet on August 20 for a skills camp before the Netherlands T20I series and ACC T20 Asia Cup.
