Overview
- The International Crimes Tribunal fixed July 1 for the indictment hearing against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, ex-Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.
- A notice published on June 17 ordered the three to surrender by June 24 under Rule 31 or face trial in their absence under Section 10A of the International Crimes Act.
- Prosecutors framed five charges on June 1 accusing the defendants of murder, attempted murder, torture and use of lethal weapons during the July–August 2024 student uprising.
- Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun was arrested and produced before the tribunal, while Hasina and Kamal remain abroad and will be represented by state-appointed defence counsel.
- The proceedings reflect the interim administration’s broader accountability drive for alleged mass killings and enforced disappearances under Hasina’s nearly 16-year Awami League rule.
