Bangladesh Ansar Guard Killed by Colleague at Mymensingh Factory as Police Probe Accidental Firing

Police have detained a fellow Ansar guard, calling the gunfire a suspected accidental discharge pending inquiry.

Overview

  • Bajendra Biswas, 40, an Ansar member on security duty, was fatally shot Monday evening inside the Sultana Sweaters Limited compound in Bhaluka, Mymensingh.
  • Police arrested fellow Ansar member Noman Mia shortly after the incident and seized the government-issued shotgun used, officials said.
  • Colleagues rushed Biswas to the Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex, where he was declared dead; his body was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
  • An eyewitness Ansar member said Mia pressed the shotgun to Biswas’s thigh, asked “Shall I shoot?”, then fired, adding he saw no prior dispute between them.
  • Authorities opened a case to determine whether the discharge was accidental or had other factors, as rights groups note it is the third killing of a Hindu man reported in roughly two weeks after the deaths of Dipu Chandra Das and Amrit Mondal.
