Banco Plata Rolls Out Smart ATM Network Across Mexico

The digital bank says the machines will give cash users secure, app-linked points of access and can be updated remotely to add services over time.

Overview

  • Banco Plata announced Thursday that it has begun installing an initial 50 smart ATMs in a first phase running from June through August 2026 across eight cities, and it plans to expand the network to more than 300 units within a year.
  • The machines are built as extensions of Banco Plata’s mobile app and offer withdrawals with or without a physical card, QR-code and wallet-based (Apple Pay, Google Pay) withdrawals, cash deposits, account deposits, bill and credit-card payments, and interbank withdrawals.
  • The terminals are fully digital and support remote software updates, which the company says will let it add interoperability with other wallets and new financial services without replacing hardware.
  • Banco Plata framed the rollout with growth figures—about $5 billion valuation, roughly 4 million active customers, over $2 billion raised, ~800 developers and 3,000+ customer service staff—to show capacity to operate a national physical network.
  • The bank says the network responds to Mexico’s heavy cash use and will offer safer on-ramps to digital accounts by letting people deposit or withdraw cash at branded, secure kiosks, a change that could reduce street cash handling and broaden access to digital services.
