Banco Nación Will Accept All U.S. Dollar Notes, Including Older ‘Small‑Head’ Series, Once Fiscal Innocence Law Takes Effect

Acceptance awaits promulgation of the Fiscal Innocence Law following the central bank’s decision to make the note‑exchange program permanent.

Overview

  • Banco Nación said it will receive all U.S. dollar series and conditions, including the older design known as “cara chica,” once the Fiscal Innocence Law is promulgated and regulated.
  • The law was approved by Congress but is not in force until it is signed and published in the Official Gazette.
  • Under BCRA Communication A 8352, banks are permanently authorized to take old, damaged or stained notes, ending the December 31, 2025 deadline.
  • The operational process requires banks to verify each note, send them to the BCRA, and have them forwarded to the United States for destruction and replacement at no cost to participating banks.
  • Eligible notes must retain more than 50% of their surface with denomination and security features visible, while mutilated notes and bundles with internal subdivisions are excluded.
