Banco Nación Admits Technical Glitch That Credited Up to $700,000 to Client Accounts

The state-run bank plans to reverse the mistaken “returns,” urging customers to leave the money untouched to avoid overdrafts.

Overview

  • Clients reported unexpected credits labeled REND.PESO and REND.USD, with amounts in pesos reaching $699,177.82 and some dollar deposits of up to about US$370.
  • Banco Nación confirmed a miscalculation in its remunerated accounts system and said the erroneous movements are being corrected after the Dec. 30 accrual.
  • The bank has not disclosed how many accounts were affected or the exact timetable for the reversals and potential adjustments to upcoming pay credits.
  • Congress staff received internal notices warning the deposits were a bank error and stating the funds would be debited on Friday, with requests not to use the money.
  • Public-sector unions, including the judicial workers’ UEJN, advised members not to spend the extra balances due to the risk of automatic debits and negative balances with interest.
