• Fomento Cultural Banamex inaugurated Casa Villa de Antequera on August 14, extending its network of cultural houses into Oaxaca’s UNESCO-listed historic center.
• The late-19th-century porfirian-style mansion was upgraded from August 2024 to March 2025 with state-of-the-art climate control, security and technological systems for hosting major exhibitions.
• Opening shows consist of El México de los mexicanos III, Grandes Maestros del Arte Popular de Oaxaca and a pictorial selection from Banamex’s collection featuring works by Francisco Toledo, Rufino Tamayo and other prominent artists.
• Claudia Caloca highlighted the building’s neoclassical façade and preserved cantera green details as distinct from Banamex’s colonial-style venues in Mexico City, Mérida, San Miguel de Allende and Durango.
• Banamex positions the new Casa as a catalyst for cultural tourism and a boost to Oaxaca’s creative industries, hospitality sector and local economic development.
