Baltimore Jury Convicts Alexis Cancel-Soto of First-Degree Murder in Federal Hill Bystander Killing

The verdict followed a case built on extensive surveillance footage despite no guns being recovered.

Overview

  • Jurors found Cancel-Soto guilty on all eight counts, including first-degree murder, conspiracy, attempted first-degree murder, reckless endangerment and multiple firearm charges.
  • Holt, 19, was struck by a stray bullet on Oct. 27, 2024, while celebrating a family gender reveal in Federal Hill and died two weeks later.
  • Prosecutors presented video from Ring, a parking lot camera, a 7-Eleven feed and Baltimore CitiWatch to map the events leading to the shootout.
  • The state argued the defendants intended to shoot another man, while the defense said Cancel-Soto fired in self-defense and there is no proof he fired the fatal shot.
  • Sentencing is set for Dec. 3, and co-defendants Devontaye Richardson and Daeshaun Clark are due for trial in October.
