Overview

  • Patrick Brice was convicted in February 2025 on two counts of second-degree assault and reckless endangerment for his May 2023 attack on 73-year-old Mark Crosby and 84-year-old Richard Schaefer
  • State prosecutors had urged a 10-year prison sentence to send a strong message against violent attacks over political or religious views
  • Victims and their attorneys condemned the sentence as a “slap on the wrist” that fails to hold Brice fully accountable
  • Surveillance video showed Brice tackling Schaefer into a flowerpot and then punching and kicking Crosby, leaving Crosby with a fractured facial bone, lifelong eye damage and other injuries
  • As part of his sentence, Brice must complete anger management classes, undergo drug and alcohol screening, attend therapy and avoid abortion-related facilities
