Balıkesir Quake Felt in Istanbul, Measured at 4.9–5.1

Officials say the event is part of an ongoing sequence near Sındırgı following August's 6.1 quake.

Overview

Turkey's AFAD reported a magnitude 4.9 earthquake near Sındırgı in Balıkesir at 15:35 MSK with a depth of about 11 kilometers.
The Kandilli Observatory assessed the same quake at magnitude 5.1 and a depth of roughly 14 kilometers.
Tremors were felt for several seconds in western Istanbul, while the Bosphorus shore at Bebek reported no noticeable shaking.
Smartphone early-warning apps sent alerts about one minute before the tremors were felt.
The event continues a pattern of seismic activity in the area after an August 6.1 quake that collapsed one building and injured at least four people, with aftershocks reported weekly and another felt event on October 27.
