Overview

• Officers arrived around 7:12 p.m. on May 31 to reports of rifle fire on the 4200 block of Filhurst Avenue and were immediately met with gunfire.
• One Baldwin Park officer died at a hospital and a second was injured but has since been released and is recovering with family.
• An adult male civilian was found dead at the scene with apparent gunshot wounds, prompting a double homicide probe.
• The suspect was wounded during the encounter, remains hospitalized in stable condition and is being held in custody.
• Multiple agencies—including the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol, El Monte and West Covina police—responded and recovered the weapon used.
