Baksho Bondi – Shadowbox to Open Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2025

The selection underscores IFFM’s mission to bring regional Indian cinema to international audiences.

Overview

  • Co-directed by debut filmmakers Tanushree Das and Saumyananda Sahi, the drama follows Maya, a working mother juggling multiple jobs while caring for her PTSD-affected husband and teenage son in a Kolkata suburb.
  • Tillotama Shome stars as Maya and co-produces the film alongside Jim Sarbh in a multinational collaboration involving India, France, the US and Spain.
  • After its world premiere in the Perspectives strand at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival, Baksho Bondi – Shadowbox will have its Australian debut on August 14.
  • IFFM’s 16th edition runs from August 14 to 24 with support from the Victorian Government and is recognised as the largest showcase of Indian cinema outside India.
  • The festival’s awards ceremony on August 15 will honour excellence across both film and streaming categories.
