Bajrang Dal Accused in Raipur Mall Vandalism Freed on Bail, Feted With Procession

The case stems from a Christmas Eve attack during a bandh over alleged religious conversions.

Overview

  • A Sessions Court granted bail on Wednesday to six men accused of vandalising Christmas decorations at Raipur’s Magneto Mall, and they were released the next day.
  • Supporters greeted the accused with garlands, slogans and a celebratory procession, carrying them on their shoulders outside jail.
  • An FIR at Telibandha police station names 30–40 unknown persons under trespass, property damage, causing hurt, rioting and unlawful assembly sections, with six arrests on December 27 and a minor apprehended.
  • A magistrate had denied bail on December 29, and Bajrang Dal state coordinator Rishi Mishra defended the procession and slogans while linking the case to alleged conversions and claiming a conspiracy.
  • Roughly 300 Bajrang Dal workers staged a nine-hour sit-in outside the Telibandha police station after the arrests, blocking traffic, and police have not registered a case over that protest.
