Bajaur Raid Kills Five Militants, Army Major Dead as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sees Fresh Attacks

Officials tie the latest operations to the Azm-e-Istehkam campaign targeting groups they describe as foreign-sponsored.

Overview

  • ISPR said an intelligence-based raid in Khar, Bajaur on December 29 killed five militants and resulted in the martyrdom of 36-year-old Major Adeel Zaman, with weapons recovered and area sanitisation underway.
  • Police reported a major operation along the KohatKarak border that killed at least eight TTP militants and destroyed multiple hideouts, with efforts continuing in mountainous terrain.
  • Peshawar police said five suspected professional target killers were shot dead in an intelligence-led operation in Daudzai; the group was blamed for more than 30 targeted killings and a CTD case was registered.
  • Separate incidents in Lakki Marwat, Tank and Swat left three policemen dead — ASI Mumtaz Ali, Constable Sajjad Hussain and Constable Hammad — with searches and investigations launched and security sources pointing to the banned TTP.
  • The military referred to the targeted militants as ‘Fitna al Khawarij’ and reaffirmed continued actions under the National Action Plan, as recent assessments cite over 1,500 terror incidents and more than 130 police fatalities in the past year.
