Baihata Cargo Terminal Nears Launch as NFR Fast-Tracks Six Gati Shakti Sites in Assam

- Northeast Frontier Railway said six Gati Shakti cargo terminals are under construction in Assam, with Baihata expected to be the first to become operational soon.
- The Baihata facility in Kamrup district was built by BR Transcon Ltd at an estimated cost of about Rs 245 crore.
- Once commissioned, the terminal is projected to handle more than 25 freight rakes per month.
- Key features include three new goods lines, an electronic in‑motion weighbridge, two goods platforms, high‑mast lighting for round‑the‑clock operations and a dedicated automobile ramp.
- The six sites are at Habaipur (Lanka, Lumding Division), Jogighopa, Baihata, Kendukona (Multi‑Modal Logistics Terminal), HPCL Basugaon and Chaygaon (Rangiya Division) under the PM Gati Shakti framework launched via the 2022 terminal policy.
