Overview

• A powerful blast tore through 25-year-old Sachchidanand Mishra’s bag outside Madhyamgram High School near the railway station at around 1 am on August 18.
• Mishra was taken to Barasat Medical College and then transferred to a Kolkata hospital, where he died the following morning.
• Local police, a Bomb Disposal Squad and forensic teams secured the area and retrieved the bag along with a mobile charger, small electronic gadgets and clothing.
• Officials from the National Investigation Agency visited both the blast site and the hospital as the inquiry was elevated beyond routine local oversight.
• Authorities are examining CCTV footage and awaiting forensic analysis to determine whether an improvised explosive device triggered the blast.
