Bad Muskau Council to Rule on Chrupalla’s €4,000 Donation to Local School

The case tests Saxony’s policy permitting private gifts to schools during a period of reduced funding.

Overview

  • AfD leader Tino Chrupalla and a local entrepreneur each contributed €2,000 to cover the Fürst-Pückler-Grundschule’s gap for full-day activities.
  • Saxony’s education ministry confirms funding for Ganztagsangebote fell from about €45 million to €35 million this year and is projected at €33 million next year.
  • Officials state political, religious and ideological organisations may not donate to schools, but private individuals may do so under current rules.
  • Because the school has no support association, the money was transferred to the city in its role as the school authority.
  • Left party education spokesperson Luise Neuhaus-Wartenberg urged rejection of the funds, while Mayor Thomas Krahl supports accepting them, and the city council has the final say.
