Bad Dürkheim Extends Bird-Flu Stall Order After Fox Case as Parts of Brandenburg Ease Rules

Local officials calibrate restrictions to wildlife findings, signaling the outbreak risk has not passed.

Overview

  • In Bad Dürkheim, a housing order for poultry now runs until January 15, 2026 after a fox shot in Wachenheim tested positive for H5N1.
  • Laboratory analysis at the Landesuntersuchungsamt confirmed the infection, following earlier detections in wild birds in Esthal, Bobenheim am Berg, Freinsheim and Obrigheim.
  • The extension covers commercial and private keepers and applies to susceptible species including chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese, the district veterinary office said.
  • In Brandenburg, Frankfurt (Oder) ended its stall order on Friday, Uckermark on Saturday and Barnim on Sunday, allowing poultry outdoors again with cautions to remain vigilant.
  • Other Brandenburg districts retain targeted rules, with Dahme-Spreewald limiting orders to three zones, Oder-Spree applying them in high-density areas of at least 1,000 birds per square kilometer and Märkisch-Oderland keeping designated areas under restriction; the state recorded 13 cases by mid-November and at least 185,000 animals were culled this autumn.
