Back-to-School Costs in Mexico Rise 12.66% as Profeco Publishes Uniform Price Ranges and Extends Fairs

ANPEC warns higher prices are steering families toward informal, lower-quality school goods.

  • ANPEC estimates families will spend up to 10,916.02 pesos per student in 2025, with the biggest jumps in supplies (up to 3,386.03 pesos, +16.66%) and cleaning items (329.99 pesos, +15.10%), plus average school fees of 2,500 pesos and uniforms and footwear reaching 4,400 pesos.
  • Profeco’s monitoring of 689 secondary-school uniform products found total costs ranging from 206.10 to 774 pesos for girls and 251.50 to 969 pesos for boys.
  • Item-level benchmarks highlight wide dispersion, including skirts at 55.30–240 pesos, blouses at 44.90–199 pesos, and sweaters at 105.90–335 pesos.
  • Profeco urges parents to compare prices using its Quién es Quién en los Precios tool to secure better deals on uniforms and school supplies.
  • More than 8,000 people attended the Aug. 16 back-to-school fair in Mexico City, and additional discount fairs are underway nationwide with locations posted on Profeco’s website.
