  • On July 9 at Chicagoland Skydiving Center in Rochelle a 40-year-old man died after colliding midair with another diver and experiencing an uncontrolled descent.
  • The surviving skydiver suffered only minor injuries and remains in stable condition after the collision.
  • On July 7 Dr. Noel Liu, a 48-year-old dentist from East Peoria, died at Skydive Chicago in Ottawa following a hard landing.
  • Ogle and LaSalle county sheriff’s offices, the LaSalle County coroner’s office, the FAA and NTSB have launched coordinated probes into both incidents.
  • Skydiving facilities are reviewing equipment, training and safety procedures after a rare cluster of fatalities during a year with historically low national death rates.
