Overview

  • A goods rake derailed near Nandgaon in Nashik district on August 8 while switching from the main line to a loop line, with preliminary reports pointing to a technical or track fault.
  • Early on August 9, 21 wagons from two goods trains derailed near Chandil in Jharkhand, including an iron ore rake whose collision blocked both up and down tracks.
  • Central and South Eastern Railway teams have deployed cranes and specialised equipment to re-rail wagons and rebuild damaged track at both sites.
  • Many long-distance services, including Rajdhani and Vande Bharat trains, remain cancelled, diverted or short-terminated pending full track clearance.
  • No injuries have been reported, but officials say ageing infrastructure and monsoon pressure heighten the need for accelerated maintenance and safety system upgrades.
