Overview
- A VW Golf struck a herd of wild boar on the B456 between Bad Homburg and Saalburg, leaving six animals dead and the Golf’s front end severely damaged.
- Emergency crews found debris, carcasses and leaked operating fluids spread over about 200 metres, and they closed the road in both directions for several hours to clear the scene.
- While traffic was queued, a driver attempted to turn on the federal road and collided with two other cars, injuring two people, one of whom was taken to hospital for further checks.
- In total the two incidents involved four vehicles and five people, none of the cars were driveable and all were towed, with police giving a preliminary damage estimate of roughly €105,000.
- The sequence on Tuesday evening highlights how wildlife strikes can create hazardous road conditions that increase the risk of secondary crashes and long traffic disruptions, a pattern emergency services say drivers and planners should watch for.
