B22 Cryptocurrency Draws Electoral Complaints Over Paid Pro‑'Vote 22' Posts

The Lula‑aligned coalition asked authorities to preserve platform records, trace token transfers and determine whether crypto rewards for social posts amounted to illegal paid promotion.

Overview

  • A project called Brasil 22 Token (B22) launched this week and offers airdrop rewards to users who hold the token, share project posts and submit links for validation.
  • The B22 'Airdrop' program requires participants to keep a minimum balance, post on X, Instagram or TikTok, keep the post live until approval and provide a digital wallet to receive tokens within seven days.
  • A high‑visibility post by the HypersKids Instagram account showed children wearing B22 shirts and the coalition says 120 million B22 units were transferred to a wallet attributed to that group before the video ran.
  • On October 8 the Brasil Pronto pra Mais coalition filed complaints with the PGE and the TSE asking for preservation of records from Meta, X, Telegram and Binance and for an investigation into who runs B22 and whether the distributions broke electoral rules, and it also asked removal of a Pablo Marçal video alleged to be deceptively edited.
  • Brazil's TSE rules ban paid online political advertising and since March 2026 explicitly forbid competitions or awards that give economic advantage for political posts, and legal experts say crypto payouts can fall under those rules if tokens have economic value and are conditioned on dissemination.
