‘Azad Kashmir’ and ‘Free Palestine’ Graffiti at Jadavpur University Escalates Political Tensions

Graffiti referencing Kashmir, Palestine, and other protest sites has intensified disputes between political groups on campus and beyond.

Graffiti with the phrases ‘Azad Kashmir’ and ‘Free Palestine’ appeared near Gate 3 of Jadavpur University, sparking political and campus-wide disputes.
The graffiti also mentioned Ladakh, Manipur, Hasdeo, and Deocha Pachami, areas tied to past protests, though the source of the graffiti remains unknown.
The incident coincides with ongoing campus unrest following a March 1 protest where two students were injured by vehicles in the state education minister's convoy.
Student groups and political factions, including the TMC, CPI(M), and BJP, have traded accusations over the graffiti and broader campus tensions.
The presence of plainclothes police on campus during a recent visit by a TMC-affiliated professor has further fueled concerns about campus safety and freedom.
