Ayodhya Targets Deepotsav Record With 2.8 Million Diyas on Oct. 19

Authorities say preparations are nearly complete for the record attempt as Ayodhya positions the festival as a showcase of its upgraded ghats and visitor facilities.

Overview

  • Ram Ki Paidi will be the focal point with about 1.5–1.6 million lamps, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to light the first diya there.
  • Laxman Kila Ghat will take part for the first time and is slated to be illuminated with more than 425,000 lamps.
  • Organisers have formed 22 committees covering coordination, security, lamp counting, traffic, cleanliness, media, first aid, decoration and volunteer management, with Prof. Sant Sharan Mishra named nodal officer.
  • A 24-hour central fair control room at Naya Ghat will operate from Oct. 16–20, 47 reserve magistrates are on standby, and specific magistrates have been assigned for VIP movements and key venues.
  • Multi-year upgrades include a spectator gallery seating about 18,000–20,000 built in 2023–24 and a ₹2,367.61 lakh 2024–25 plan for amphitheatres, stone canopies and grand lamps, with project documents citing eight grand lamps while the mayor reports seven as installations near completion.
