Ayodhya Seer and Ram Janmabhoomi Leader Ram Vilas Vedanti Dies in Rewa After Heart Attack

Doctors reported septicemia with kidney failure before a fog-hit transfer attempt to AIIMS Bhopal.

Overview

  • Hospital officials said Vedanti was admitted on December 14 with septicemia, very low blood pressure and kidney failure, suffered a heart attack that night, went on ventilator support and died Monday morning.
  • An air ambulance could not land in Rewa to shift him to AIIMS Bhopal because of poor visibility caused by dense fog, the hospital superintendent said.
  • He had traveled to Rewa on December 10 to narrate a Ram Katha, and his mortal remains are being taken to Ayodhya for last rites on Tuesday on the Saryu.
  • Vedanti was a prominent face of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, served as executive president of the Ram Janmabhoomi body, and was a two-time BJP MP from Machhlishahr and Pratapgarh.
  • He had been named in the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition case and was acquitted by a special CBI court in 2020, as political and religious leaders including Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath offered condolences.
