Ayodhya Lights Over 30 Lakh Diyas as Vice‑President Opens 10th Deepotsav

Officials say the event pairs traditional lamp‑lighting with large drone and projection shows and upgraded riverfront facilities to drive pilgrimage tourism and local livelihoods.

Overview

  • On Saturday, Nov. 7, Ayodhya’s 10th Deepotsav lit more than 30 lakh (3 million) earthen lamps across 56 ghats with Vice‑President C P Radhakrishnan inaugurating the ceremony beside Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
  • Organisers staged large multimedia elements, including a 2,100‑drone display, projection mapping, laser shows and a 300‑foot cinematic facade to dramatise episodes of the Ramayana for visitors.
  • Security and crowd management were stepped up with a dedicated CCTV control room, drone surveillance, thousands of police personnel and specialised teams such as NSG commandos and the Uttar Pradesh ATS deployed around the riverfront.
  • New visitor infrastructure at Ram Ki Paidi built for about Rs 23.68 crore and mass volunteer efforts helped place and light the diyas, and officials highlighted the festival’s role in supporting potters, artisans and local vendors.
  • Deepotsav began in 2017 and has expanded each year with multiple Guinness records, and this decade milestone underlines Ayodhya’s push to turn religious pageantry into a sustained pilgrimage and tourism economy.
