Axiom-4 Mission Rescheduled for June 22 Following ISS Repairs

NASA plans to use the extra days to verify operations in the ISS’s Zvezda module after recent maintenance work

The mission will be piloted by Shukla. Peggy Whitson, former NASA astronaut and director of human spaceflight at Axiom Space, will command the commercial mission.

  • The Ax-4 mission has faced six launch postponements since its original May 29 date and is now set for no earlier than June 22.
  • Officials cited the need to assess performance in the aft segment of the Zvezda service module after recent repair work aboard the space station.
  • Commander Peggy Whitson and her three crewmates remain in quarantine at Florida’s Kennedy Space Center under medical and safety protocols.
  • The international crew includes India’s Shubhanshu Shukla, who will be the second Indian in space, alongside Poland’s Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski and Hungary’s Tibor Kapu.
  • During its 14-day stay, Ax-4 will conduct more than 60 scientific experiments contributed by 31 countries across human health, Earth observation and life sciences.
