Overview

  • The Brazilian drama secured three Golden Globe nominations—Best Motion Picture Drama, Non-English Language Film, and Best Actor for Wagner Moura—with the ceremony on Jan. 11.
  • Variety’s final forecasts place Moura slightly ahead of Michael B. Jordan for Best Actor in Drama, citing his sustained awards-season traction since Cannes.
  • The BAFTA longlists feature the film in Non-English Language Film and Original Screenplay, but Moura was not on the Best Actor pre-selection; nominations arrive Jan. 27 with the ceremony on Feb. 22.
  • U.S. guilds dealt setbacks: The Actor Awards nominations left Moura out, the PGA list omitted the film, and WGA eligibility excluded several major foreign titles.
  • The film added a lighter-note honor with New York Film Festival’s Golden Beast for its cats, as Brazilian social media criticized Moura’s omission from the actors’ guild slate.
