Overview
- From January 1–14, 2026, services between Preston and Carlisle will run non-stop via the Settle–Carlisle line roughly every two hours.
- Avanti will deploy bi-mode Class 805 Evero trains to cover the unelectrified route, following a successful 10-car trial in August.
- The M6 will be closed between junctions 39 and 40 on the first two weekends of January as the bridge works proceed.
- Travelers heading to Scotland from London, Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester will be advised to use the East Coast Main Line, with buses for Lancaster, Oxenholme and Penrith.
- Full timetables and passenger guidance are due in early October, with some diverted services reaching the Settle–Carlisle via Blackburn, Clitheroe and Hellifield.
