Avalanche's Samuel Girard Cleared to Practice After Mental Health Treatment

The NHL player, who sought help for untreated anxiety and depression leading to alcohol abuse, has not yet been cleared to play in games.

Samuel Girard, a defenseman for the Colorado Avalanche, has been cleared to resume practice after receiving care from the NHL's player assistance program.
Girard had previously cited untreated severe anxiety and depression leading to alcohol abuse as the reason for entering the program.
He has entered the follow-up care phase of the program but has not yet been cleared to play in games.
Girard expressed gratitude to his wife, family, friends, the club, his teammates and the fans for their patience, understanding, and continued support.
Avalanche coach Jared Bednar has expressed the team's support for Girard's decision to seek help.
