Avalanche trade forward Alex Newhook to Canadiens

The Colorado Avalanche traded forward Alex Newhook to the Montreal Canadiens for draft picks and a minor league defenseman.
The Avalanche received Montreal's first and second round picks in the 2023 NHL draft and defenseman Gianni Fairbrother.
Newhook played 159 games for the Avalanche over three seasons, recording 27 goals and 39 assists.
The trade gives the Avalanche salary cap flexibility and the Canadiens a young forward to build around.
Fairbrother, 23, is under contract with Montreal for one more season but missed the entire 2022-23 season with a knee injury.
