Overview

  • The Avalanche signed Nelson to a three-year, $22.5 million contract carrying a $7.5 million average annual cap hit.
  • After joining Colorado in a March 6 trade, Nelson posted six goals and seven assists in 19 regular-season games and added four assists in seven playoff contests.
  • General manager Chris MacFarland praised Nelson’s professionalism and work ethic and called him a stabilizing presence in the second-line center role.
  • His extension completes Colorado’s top-nine center rotation alongside Hart Trophy winner Nathan MacKinnon on the first line and Charlie Coyle on the third.
  • Colorado now projects roughly $1.2 million in cap space remaining as the team heads into the July free-agent period.
