Avalanche in Colorado Claims Life of 67-Year-Old Snowboarder

Dr. Peter Harrelson, a long-time resident of Ophir, was found dead following a solo snowboarding trip in an area with moderate avalanche danger.

67-year-old Dr. Peter Harrelson, an avid snowboarder and long-time resident of Ophir, Colorado, was found dead following an avalanche in the Waterfall Canyon area.
Harrelson was reported missing by friends after he failed to return from a solo snowboarding trip. Despite immediate search efforts, his body was only recovered the following morning.
The area where Harrelson was snowboarding had a moderate avalanche danger rating at the time of the incident.
This marks the fourth avalanche-related death in the US this winter, and the first for Colorado this season.
The Colorado Avalanche Information Center recently recorded 1,100 avalanches in Colorado over the course of one week.
