Overview
- Mow as long as the grass is growing and make the final cut at roughly 4 to 5 centimeters, with the timing set by weather rather than a fixed date.
- Use sharp blades to avoid frayed tips that invite disease and keep the surface clear of leaves and fallen fruit to prevent light deprivation and fungi.
- Water deeply once or twice weekly with about 10–15 liters per square meter, preferably using stored rainwater to restore soil moisture before winter.
- Stop nitrogen-heavy fertilizers by mid-September and apply a potassium-rich autumn mix to strengthen cell walls and support reserve building against frost.
- Avoid verticutting in autumn in favor of gentle raking, consider reseeding bare spots or entire lawns until mid-October, and cut flower meadows higher at about 10 centimeters while removing cuttings and leaving refuge strips where possible.
