Overview
- ADAC predicts the heaviest traffic between 14:00 and 18:00 on Friday and advises starting early in the morning or later in the evening.
- Dutch traffic service ANWB expects long queues from about 16:30 on the A2, A27 and A50, with full closures including the A9 Holendrecht–Badhoevedorp (Oct 10–13), A17 Noordhoek–De Stok (Oct 10–20) and an A73 restriction near Ewijk through Oct 13.
- Germany’s federal police will conduct fixed and mobile controls at German–Dutch crossings such as A1 De Lutte and A12 Oud-Dijk and carry out spot checks on trains, urging travelers to keep valid ID ready after recent averages of 10–15 minutes’ delay at checkpoints.
- Numerous construction zones—about 1,200 nationwide and more than 800 in North Rhine-Westphalia—are expected to slow key corridors including the A1, A2, A3, A4 and A40.
- Air travel and rail will be busy as Düsseldorf expects about 1.3 million passengers and Cologne/Bonn around 650,000 during the break, with longer waits at Düsseldorf security, while rail works reroute long‑distance trains between Dortmund and Essen and suspend all long‑distance stops at Bochum.
