Autopsy Finds No Signs of Foul Play in Death of UH Student Jade McKissic

Investigators await the medical examiner's ruling on cause of death.

  • Houston police said the 20-year-old was recovered from Brays Bayou near 4998 Spur 5 on Sept. 15 after being reported missing.
  • The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences reported no trauma or indications of foul play, with the official cause still pending.
  • McKissic was last seen early Sept. 11 near the 3700 block of North MacGregor Way after visiting bars with friends, then going to a gas station and walking toward the bayou.
  • Her death was one of four bodies recovered from Houston waterways during the same week, according to HPD, with other causes under review.
  • The University of Houston offered counseling and plans a memorial, while a student group criticized the response and urged improvements to lighting, transportation and escort services.
