Austria Sets End Date for Motorway Stickers as Digital-Only Tolls Begin in 2027

ASFINAG says roughly three quarters of users already buy plate‑linked passes, paving the way for a smooth switch.

Overview

  • The final adhesive vignette will be for 2026 in a fire‑red design, with sales starting in late November 2025.
  • From 1 February 2027 only digital vignettes will be valid on Austrian motorways, with a €120 replacement toll or fines up to €3,000 for noncompliance.
  • Indexed 2026 prices are set at €9.60 for one day, €12.80 for ten days, €32.00 for two months, and €106.80 for an annual pass.
  • Digital vignettes are tied to licence plates and can be bought online or at numerous outlets, fuel stations, club counters and border machines, with ASFINAG expanding its partner network.
  • Online purchases of two‑month and annual passes have an 18‑day validity delay under consumer rules, while one‑ and ten‑day buys and all purchases at physical points are valid immediately.
