Overview

  • All four hybrid-propellant engines ignited and sustained a 23-second burn before two motors failed and the vehicle lost thrust at 14 seconds.
  • After clearing the pad the vehicle hovered briefly before executing a controlled crash in a nearby field without causing injuries or damaging the launch infrastructure.
  • Bowen Orbital Spaceport, certified in May as Australia’s first commercial orbital launch facility, hosted the July 30 Eris-1 liftoff.
  • Federal grants totalling AU$57 million—AU$52 million in 2023 and AU$5 million this month—have underpinned development of the Eris program.
  • Gilmour Space Technologies recovered full telemetry and is analysing performance data as it prepares a follow-on Eris-1 test flight later this year.
