Australian Human Trafficking Reports Hit Record 420 as Exit Trafficking Doubles

Police say increased outreach is prompting more reports that still understate the scale.

Overview

  • Australian Federal Police recorded 420 human trafficking reports in 2024/25, up 10% from 382 the previous year.
  • Exit trafficking, defined as coercing someone to leave Australia, rose sharply from 35 reports to 75.
  • Reports also increased for forced marriage (91 to 118), sexual servitude (59 to 84) and modern slavery (from fewer than five to 12).
  • More than 90% of exit-trafficking victims were female, highlighting a gendered vulnerability noted by officials.
  • Other categories declined, with none involving organ trafficking or harbouring, and the AFP delivered more than 900 awareness presentations that may have boosted reporting.
